Kanyakumari - Famous Food Recipe - FISH CURRY (Meen Kolambu)- Part-4

Meen Kolambu is one of the favorite foods of Kanyakumari. Meen Kolambu or fish curry is a non-vegetarian dish. To prepare this dish, one will require fresh fish and an array of condiments. Meen Kolambu can be served with the main meal of the day. This dish can be served with rice.

Kanyakumari recipes are easy to prepare. To cook Meen Kolambu, first of all, fish is to be washed properly and to be marinated with limejuice and salt. In the mean time, garlic, ginger, poppy seeds, grated coconut and tomatoes should be blended together. To save time, it is better to keep aside the separated pulp of Tamarind after soaking it in water for sometime.

In a pan, oil is to be heated. Then, onions should be stirred till it turns golden brown. Mustard seeds, chilly powder, coriander leaves and turmeric powder are to be added and stirred with the onions. After some time, grated coconut, salt and Tamarind water to be added. Sufficient amount of water is to be added to these ingredients. Once the ingredients come to a boil, fish cut in small pieces, are to be put in the pan. Now sprinkle a little amount of cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds as decoration, and Meen Kolambu is ready to be served.

  • Fish 800 gm
  • Coconut 225 gm
  • Ginger 1 piece
  • Garlic 6 pod
  • Onion 350 gm
  • Tomato 450 gm
  • Lime Juice 2 nos
  • Poppy seeds 6 top
  • Mustard seeds ¼ top
  • Tamarind 2 top
  • Coriander Powder 1 Teaspoon
  • Curry Leaves
  • Cumin Seeds - ¾ Teaspoon
  • Fenugreek Seeds - ¾ Teaspoon
  • Chili powder 2 Teaspoon
  • Oil ½ cup
  • Salt
